Staffing the District Attorney's Office

The current district attorney uses contract attorneys to act as her prosecutors. Storey County should have full-time prosecutors available five days a week. I will hire deputies who are county employees, not contractors.

Zealously Prosecuting Cases

The current district attorney has an abysmal record in prosecuting cases. Until recent years, she filed fewer than 10 cases in the district court per year. Both the current sheriff and his predecessor have expressed frustration in dealing with her. She has been both unreasonable and unapproachable. While the Sheriff and the District Attorney must remain independent because they serve different functions, they must regularly meet and collaborate to ensure that crime in Storey County is prosecuted justly for everyone, including the victims.

Residency

Nevada law does not require the district attorney to live in the county to run for the office. The current district attorney has taken that a step further. She has NEVER lived in Storey County. Neither has my opponent. I do not believe my opponent intends to live here if she wins.

Renting a P.O. Box in Virginia City is NOT the same thing as being a county resident.

I didn't live here when I ran in 2022, but I promised to move here if I won.

I lost.

But I still moved here. I may be the only losing candidate in history to keep a campaign promise. The District Attorney needs to be part of the community and have "skin in the game." The District Attorney should not be someone who collects a paycheck from the County while not actually living here.

Fighting for Storey County

The Storey County District Attorney is also the Public Administrator, which has a specialized role in probate. Using that part of the office, I want to have, as a service to county residents, an ability to generate simple wills, powers of attorney, medical directives, and provide notary public services. The cost would be minimal. The benefit to the county enormous.

Services to the River District

The River District, including Lockwood, is physically isolated from the rest of the county. While there is a nice brand new community center and the sheriff and fire department provide excellent service, most other county services are lacking. In the current technological age, River District residents should not have to travel to Virginia City to conduct routine county business. Rather, they should be able to deal with all of the county offices with minimal travel.
I will work with the County Commission, the County Manager, and the other elected officials to make this happen. I will lead by example by maintaining an office, with designated hours, in both Lockwood and the Industrial Park.
